Demystifying 'Namaste'

I feel compelled to speak about this subject largely because in recent years, yoga has become a popular, fad fitness even though its origins are as old as time. And, in many respects has lost a bit of its spirituality.  'Namaste' is not some weird word used only for the yoga gurus but for everyone here on this earth. Actually, if we used Namaste more often and knew what it actually meant, then maybe everyone in our world would fair a bit better. Namaste is a sanskrit word that loosely translates to "I am acknowledging the divine in you that also resides in me" one of my favorite translations. It can also mean "I recognize God within you as he is in me as well" and also "I recognize the God in  you as he is everywhere too" and such. This translation stems from the belief that we are all parts of the whole. As God, The Universe, Source, whatever you call him/her/it is everywhere and in everything, and as we are all part(icipators) in this world, we are also divine.

So again, when you're sitting in that yoga class and the instructor says 'Namaste', say it back with full intention and full knowing of what it means. I even encourage you to use it outside of yoga.

Yours in love and light.

Namaste

When you breed love, you receive it too

The Universe gives to those who give freely. Whether you are giving of your money, time, effort, love or all of the above, God returns the favor. This happens when you are coming from a place of utmost love, where there is no room in your heart for expectation, vengeful giving/manipulation and the like. Be patient for everyone has their turn. Yours is coming soon too.

Yours in love and light.

Namaste.

Summer Solstice and the Supermoon

Summer is here. Take this time to check-in with yourself. How are you feeling? Physically, emotionally and mentally? Reflect on your year thus far. Is your New Year's Resolution still in place and in line with where you are now? With the Summer Solstice, comes new energy. Revitalizing, refreshing and invigorating. This is the time to start a new journey, putting your best foot forward. If you have been feeling sluggish, try revamping your diet. Including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables not only delivers vitamins but provides you with the sunlight to illuminate you from the inside out. Make time for meditation, even if it is only for 10 minutes. Or maybe cycle through some Sun Salutation, as it is most fitting for this occasion. Spend time outside, connecting with nature; breathing in all it's goodness.

This Sunday brings the Supermoon! The moon will be high in the sky and brighter than ever! To balance your sun energy, relax in the polar energy of the moon. Ask your higher self for guidance surrounding an issue that is bothering you. Be open to your natural gifts, allowing them to grow.

Happy Soul fulfilling!

I'm Coming Out

So, lately I have been struggling with my identity. Routinely, I've been asking myself, "Who are you?" "Are you going into the right field? The right graduate school?" And, I'm happy to say that today I am really coming out of the closet. No, not the sexuality closet. I am still straight. But, I am coming out of the spiritual closet. I feel that I choose to conceal most of myself to people in fear of being labeled crazy or whatever. And for the intolerant people, that is okay. They don't need to know my business. But, I have to say it has been difficult for me to be honest about myself with my own friends and family. Coming out to my boyfriend about my claircognizant abilities was the biggest struggle. I think maybe that is a loaded statement; I'll figure it out in hindsight. Nevertheless, he was very accepting of me and low and behold, he still loves me. Ha! How silly of me to think those things. However, I do know that this is a completely natural process and my abilities are completely natural. No shame. So concluding, I am really happy to be writing this. To feel really at peace with myself about my spirituality and my abilities. It feels good.

Projections

Do you ever feel so out-of-place sometimes that you kind of just say to yourself, "Geeze. You're a weird one." Yeah, that's me most days. haha That's okay though. I feel it's liberating to know that there is no one else out there like you and that you're completely unique. And yes, I am aware of the fact I am using "you" statements. This entire post is a projection.

Simplify

When our minds become cluttered with junk, it makes it quite difficult to function normally. We have this constant dialogue running in our minds about things that need to be done, current riffs in our relationships and the common stressors of bills and such. Take a moment to stop and take a breath. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly. And now, remember to simplify. Get rid of as much emotional and physical clutter as you can. If your bills are stressing you out, do little things to help simplify such as, stop getting Starbucks every morning or nix the spending sprees. Who needs that junk anyway? Let go of old relationships that no longer serve you, grow you or inspire you because if they are not doing one of those things, then they are only weighing you down. In the end, the only thing we as humans really need is the air we breathe. Take time for yourself and to enjoy a deep breath. You are beautiful, you are deserving.

Quit being a fake and let's be real

Part of me feels so compelled to write this and the other part of me is kind of saying "Shh, shh. Don't say anything negative." I think the other side wins.

I am so sickened by much of what I see around me. First, I want to address the imposters. The people who claim to be living a spiritual life. They preach things on subjects such as manifestation of dreams, contributing positivity and living an authentic life. But how is being greedy in line with any of these beliefs? How is it okay to be vindictive and nasty to one another behind eachothers' backs, but then to turn around and to pretend to be something different? This is not okay and never what God intended.

Secondly, this sheer disrespect is just plain patronizing. As we are on the subject of disrespect, I am shocked by the profuse amount of disrespect humanity has for each other. What are we savages? What we do to eachother is truly disgusting. From war to catty, spiteful verbal attacks, but especially the latter most recently. Stop it and grow up. There has been too much time wasted on this. Actually FAR too much time wasted on this. Imagine the amount of goodness that could be contributed to the world if we actually did what we preached and led this life CONSISTENTLY.

WE need to make it our duty to band together and work towards a commonly goal. WE need to fight for the righteous doings to annex the malicious ones. If we do not stick up for ourselves, then who will? This is not some crazy, activist-type post. This is a proclamation of truth. Do not wait for politicians to facilitate change or for "activists" to step up to the plate. One person did not build the Great Wall of China and in the same respects, not just one person will build a more progressive tomorrow. This is a collective effort. Let's ditch our old habits and accept the challenge.

Take a look

Maybe you've noticed the prominent behaviors of others recently or maybe you've noticed some of your own. If these behaviors are attention-seeking, grandiose, show-offish, arrogant, selfish or any other self-defeating behavior, recognize that this is the ego carrying out these behaviors. Your job is to recognize them and take to head to what it needs. Breathe in, breathe out and let it go.
